4th Grade would like to invite the public to our National History Day!
The Elementary Poster Contest is a scaled-down version of the standard National History Day exhibit category. The contest is open to 4th and 5th graders, and posters focus on topics in Montana history and relate to the annual NHD theme (2024-2025 Rights and Responsibilities in History).
Our 4th Grade students will be having a Sunburst Showcase on Thursday, May 8th, starting at 12:30p.m. in the Elementary School Library. Students will then go to the Marias Museum Annex building in Shelby on Wednesday, May 14th, where they will present their projects to the public and a panel of judges starting at 10:00a.m.
Once our local judges have awarded the winners, NHD Montana will then take the winning posters to be exhibited at local cultural institutions around the state during the summer. Finally, winning posters will be exhibited at the annual Montana History Conference at the end of September 2025, when a grand champion will be selected!
The kids have been working extremely hard on these projects since Novemeber, and I'm looking forward to watching their hard work pay off.
Please come out to support the kids on May 8th, the 14th, or BOTH!

I'm very proud of these leadership students for completing their project! The team made up of Yael, Nick and Kacey raised money to buy new blocks for the track and field team. They also hosted a dinner and fun run for the community this past week. Well done guys!

4th grade's Homesteading Unit is coming to an end, but that doesn't mean the learning ends there! I'm hopeful that these past couple of weeks encourages them to continue learning about the history of this area and of our past!
Today, we made BUTTER! After learning about the process and 30 minutes of shaking, the kids got to enjoy the fruits of their labor! The smiles say it all! Hard work pays off!

Montana Economic Challenge Winners!
Sunburst Schools is excited to announce our business economics students placed first and third in the Montana Economics Challenge! This challenge is a test on economic knowledge. For the second year in a row, Sunburst Schools has taken first place in the state! The teams will receive a cash prize!
The first place team was comprised of Michael Miller, Ali Nau, and Christopher Biesemeyer. The 3rd place team included Kaiden Benson, Wyatt Evans, and Wyatt Rogers. The students are all part of Mr. Nix's Business Economics class.
The winning team took the semifinal test on April 23, 2025. If they score high enough, they could potentially advance to Nationals!
On May 7th, Dax Schieffer from MCEE will be coming to present the winning teams their money awards for winning at the state level.

On today's homesteading adventure, the 4th graders learned about the process of making bread! They started by grinding the wheat and then followed step by step directions to make bread in a bag! When asked if they would enjoy having to do the laborious task each day, they all gleefully shouted, "Yes!" So, parents, I think it's safe to say you can put them to work!
Stay tuned to see what we make tomorrow to put on our bread!

"Hoppy" Easter! From 1st Grade!

On today's homesteading adventure, the 4th graders had to manage their finances. All of the kids were split into two families. Each family was tasked with creating a proposal to the bank in order to receive a loan for the items they thought they'd need to run a successful homestead. Then, they looked through an old Sears Catalog to find items they could furnish their new homes with.

Plan on having hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and cookies with your community on Tuesday, April 22nd beginning at 5:30pm. If you like to run, there will be an optional 5K run starting at 5:30pm OR you can choose to walk/run a mile around the track starting at 5:40pm. See you there!

Sports Nutrition students planned, shopped for, prepped and cooked an Easter dinner this week! They did an amazing job! Many staff members and students commented on how delicious their food was. Way to go Tanner, Michael, Ali, Cordelle and Janto!

Thanks to the Toole County Conservation District and the MSU Extension Office for sharing their knowledge with the 4th grade class! They learned about the Golden Triangle, the different types of wheat, what different things the wheat makes, and even started growing their own! Next week, they'll be back to help the kids grind the wheat and make their own bread!

Easter Break
Sunburst Schools will not have school from Friday, April 18 through Tuesday, April 22., 2025 Hopefully everyone has a wonderful 5 day long weekend!

4th grade read the novel "Hattie Big Sky" this year and dove into the life of a homesteader. Our classroom was transformed over the weekend to enhance our learning. So far, students have worked through stations of primary source documents to learn what life would have been like for many in the late 1800s, and each became a homesteader in a simulation to see if they could "prove up" in 5 years. The excitement or disappointment on their faces tells the story of their fortune.
My, oh, my, what will tomorrow bring for these 4th grade honyockers?!?
