Our 4th-grade students got a hands-on history lesson this week! To understand primary sources, students were given a powerful task: to analyze authentic family documents (birth certificates, census records, ship manifests, and handwritten documents) to trace a portion of Mrs. Richmond's family history. This engaging, project-based lesson transformed our classroom into an historical archive! The students weren't just reading history; they were doing history, meticulously examining artifacts to piece together a family tree. It was a powerful reminder that history isn't just in books—it's in the personal stories and documents that connect us all. Great work, young historians!

Fourth grade finished writing narrative stories and had a "Story Fest" to enjoy reading each other's work. Of course, we listened to coffee shop jazz music and drank a warm beverage to really set the mood.

To learn more about the Fur Trade, a student brought in a few different furs to feel, and we read the picture book, "The Flower Beadwork People". The students had fun dressing Mrs. Nagy up in the furs! We then designed our own flower beadwork on a moccasin craft.

K-6 teachers have been implementing an awesome new writing curriculum with students, and today, 4th grade came to share some special things with 1st grade! Both classes have learned about barebones sentences and the importance of their structure. They are the foundation and the building blocks to create more sophisticated sentences as students advance in their writing skills. The 4th grade students summarized some fun Halloween stories completely in barebones sentences and then read these stories to the 1st graders. Both classes enjoyed spending time together!
