Ledger art Ledger art flourished primarily from the 1860s to the 1920s. A revival of ledger art began in the 1960s and 1970s. Native Americans began using the pages of old ledger accounting books (formerly used by Indian Agents, traders, and military officers) to record their visual history. I have a few of my favorite pieces of Ledger Art hanging in my classroom as well as some additions created by my 4th grade class! Peep them in the background!!

Freshman Painting the NTC Rocks
Yesterday the freshman that were available after school completed their annual task of painting the NTC rocks white on the hill outside of Sunburst.

The Montana Historical Society has so many engaging ways to teach kids about Montana History. In this activity, students were divided into "family units" , given a ruler and tape and were asked to mark off an 8 by 8 section of the playground. They were then told they could play but couldnt leave their alloted space. This activity introduced students to the allotment period. We returned to the classroom and did some reading and watched a few videos about this time in history!

Third grade students learned about a key and grid system on a Montana Highway map and then they took a trip across Montana finding a town for every letter of the alphabet (except x of course!) During our next class period we will go on a Google Earth through each of the towns!
