This week, as the culminating activity of our unit on persuasion and rhetoric, juniors engaged in formal debates on topics ranging from educational reform — “Should education focus more on practical skills than traditional academics?” — to global policy— “Should governments enforce stricter measures to combat climate change?” In response to these questions, students presented structured arguments, responded to claims and counterclaims, and practiced the art of civil discourse.
Chemistry practiced their gas laws while imploding pop cans!
Refiner Gameday!
The Refiner boys were victorious over the Valier Panthers 61-31 and will play Friday, February 20, 2026, at 3pm in a semifinal game vs. Heart Butte.
The Lady Refiners also picked up a huge win over the Heart Butte Lady Warriors 46-42 and will play Friday, February 20, 2026 at 7:30pm vs. CJI.
Congrats to both teams on big tournament victories and good luck!

Refiner Pep Assembly
A pep assembly was held today to get our basketball teams fired up for the District 10C tournament! All K-12 students attended and had a great time!

District 10C Basketball Tournament
The District 10C basketball tournament begins on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at the Shelby High School Gymnasium. The Refiner boys will be the #3 seed and will take on Valier at 6pm. The Lady Refiners will open as the #5 seed and take on Heart Butte at 7:30pm. Good luck to both teams.

More NHD fun!!
We are so incredibly proud of these jr. high students for stepping out of their comfort zones and trying something new! These six competed in their first National History Day Project and experienced what it's like to be a historian! They learned a lot about the historical research process and ways to improve their projects for state in April.

Writing sentences with prepositional phrases can be fun when it involves paper airplanes! The 5th grade students had fun making paper airplanes, flying them, and then writing a sentence that included a prepositional phrase about where they landed. Some ended up in some crazy spots!
Things got a little messy (and a lot scientific) in third grade today! Students investigated what happens when premade play dough is mixed with sand and sawdust, exploring how materials combine to form new mixtures. Lots of curiosity, great observations, and some very interesting textures were discovered along the way!
