Our lunch ladies, Miss Brandi and Miss Lorrie, could smell that 4th grade was enjoying some tasty books. They had to stop by and see how our "Book Tasting" was going. Students selected a book from five different genres to expose them to some new 'flavors' maybe they hadn't tried before! And, of course, we had to have a couple of treats to enjoy as well!

In this introduction to inquiry lesson, 4th graders learned some of the skills and strategies historians use to learn about the past. They analyzed artifacts to answer the mystery question: "What can you learn from someone's pockets?" The students then shared their claim, based on the evidence, about whose pockets the items belonged in. Each group was able to come to the conclusion that all artifacts were in President Lincoln's pockets on the night of his assassination.

Having a picture perfect first day in 4th grade!

On the first day of school, 4th graders were introduced to our exciting Classroom Economy program where they'll earn “Rich"mond Bucks for doing their job (attending school) and completing tasks like keeping their desk neat and using their planner. Students will learn important life skills like budgeting, saving money, and being responsible by paying weekly rent and shopping at our class store on Wednesdays. They have the opportunity to save and “buy” their desk, which will remove their rent but add in a small property tax! Today, they learned key vocabulary like ‘economy’, ‘deposit’, and ‘withdrawal’. As well as how to fill out their check register. It's going to be a fabulous year in 4th grade!

Welcome Mrs. Tharp!

Mrs. Tharp was recently hired as the K-12 Special Education teacher. She worked at Sunburst Schools previously as a paraprofessional for a couple years. She then went to work for Youth Dynamics as a behavioral health and trauma case manager for children. She worked for Youth Dynamics for 3 years working within different school districts to aide in student success. In 2024, she was offered a job as the K-12 music teacher here in Sunburst. She is very excited this year to be the newly hired K-12 special education teacher.

Mrs. Tharp grew up in Sunburst and graduated from NTCHS in 2015. She then attended college at the University of Montana Western and obtained a PK-3 teaching degree. She has started classes again this fall to continue her education.

Mrs. Tharp is married to Tyler Tharp and they have a wonderfully energetic bouncing one year old, Traycen, who keeps them on their toes. They have 2 dogs, Colt and Daisy, and 1 cat, Oliver.

Mrs. Tharp keeps pretty busy with Traycen. They enjoy playing outside and going for walks along with reading books and learning new songs.

Mrs. Tharp is very excited to continue doing what she loves. She is passionate about empowering kids to be the best version of themselves. She feels that this new role at Sunburst is going to allow her to continue doing so with the students at Sunburst Schools. She is very grateful for the overwhelming amount of support and excitement shared by teachers, parents, and community members.
